Seattle

Yes, I'm writing this from Seattle. This is my first time over the seas. I'll be staying here for a month and I'm living with my aunt. My trip didn't start too well, our baggage got lost on the way. Luckily we got it back.

Today we drove around the city and wen't to a beach area. It was quite warm and crowded. I managed to sneak a picture of a dad and a girl. I wish I could do more street photography but taking pictures of random people is a bit scary. You have to bee discreet but not creepy.

I also took these pictures in raw. I usually shoot in jpg but eventually got tired of not being able to fix blown out clouds. I have three sd-cards with me so I don't think I will run out of space too soon. Hope you like the pictures! :)

New lens

Guess what, I bought a new lens! It's been on my mind for so long and finally I had the money I needed. After reading a lot of reviews I thought the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 usm was the one for me. I also picked up a new camera bag and a UV-filter from a local store.

Already today I put the lens up for a test and went to a riding competition. The weather was awful and it sure did put the lens (and the person behind it) up for a challenge. I can't really say I got any great photos from today but the conditions were really bad and I did expect a lot worse photos.

The power of editing

If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid

The plastic bag is one reason for the bad settings. I cut a hole so I was able to see through the viewfider. I had no idea of how the pictures looked like or if the white balance was okay. :D Regardless of the weather I am pretty impressed with the lens so far.

Girl and pony

Today we had a "photo shoot" with my friend. She asked me to take her confirmation photo, but I don't know why anyone would trust me with that. :D The first 15 minutes the sun was peaking but soon enough hid behind clouds.

These photos were taken on our lawn, Luckily no one minds holes in the ground. The lightning was nice and soft for being a daylight, no harsh shadows or anything. The sun could have stayed longer visible if you ask me tho
Our little friend is after all a horse with a mind of it's own; she didn't always agree with us. It was pretty easy to get her attention with a plastic bag and treats.

Finnish nature

I'm not a person who enjoys living on the countryside that much, but one thing I love is visiting our summer island. Crystal clear water, warm summer wind and rock under your feet which still has it's reminders from the ice age.

Taking this picture was a little uncomfortable and probably looked really funny. I tried to take the picture with a long shutter speed to make the water look soft. I didn't have my tripod with me so I had to rest my elbows on the ground. It was really sunny and I don't own a dark filter for my lens so this experiment was more of a fail. Plus, I don't know how many times my feet got wet since the rock was really slippery.

Overall I really enjoyed this one day trip to the archipelago!

Hello!

My name is Nina and I am a 15-year-old girl from Finland. This blog is something I created for fun, nothing too serious. Art is something I've always loved, photography came along later. Regardless, I want to experiment and get better at both forms of self-expression.

I draw with graphite pencils in a Fabriano ecological drawing block with a paper thickness of 120g/m^3. My paintings are done in acrylics, most of them are Van Gogh. I use some semi cheap brushes and random canvases from my local bookstore.

All my pictures are taken with Canon EOS 70D, witch is the reason I only have one lens, Canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 STM.

And last some of my favorite pieces through the years.
